BFD Jazz & Funk Collection is an expansion pack for FXpansions BFD acoustic drum software. Recorded at Omega Studios, Maryland, USA, by a new engineering and production team, its sounds offer a whole spectrum of fresh flavours for your productions.

Sticks, brushes, mallets, rods and hands
Most of the instruments in the collection are provided in stick and brushed versions, with selected pieces also played with mallets, rods and even hands! A wide range of controlled, dynamic articulations are featured, including some never heard before in a BFD library. Snare cross-sticks and brush sweeps offer new expressive potential for your drum performances.
The kits are recorded in a warm, bright-sounding room, using high-end mics and preamps chosen for their transparency and accuracy. The sound revolves around the sharp and dynamic direct and overhead channels, while the room and PZM mics reinforce it with subtle space. Brushed instruments possess a fluid, soulful intimacy while the crisp, full-bodied stick versions sizzle and slice through your mix with focused intensity.

A vast and versatile collection
BFD Jazz & Funk Collection is centred around three beautiful kits – a Slingerland, a Yamaha and a 6-tom Gretsch. Several high-resolution hihats with closed, 1/4 -open, 1/2 -open, 3/4 -open and fully open positions are included, along with a vast array of Sabian, Wuhan and Zildjian cymbals. Finally, a variety of additional kicks and snares further expand your musical possibilities: vintage classics such as a Ludwig Super Sensitive snare, a 1970s Slingerland 32 kick and a restored 1940s Leedy 26 kick are just a few highlights of the drums at your disposal.

Contents .DMG to unpack the full (55GB) library + bonus patch that fixes Sabian AAX Hihat samples in ambient mics problems

Differences between the BFD2 boxed version and the download version?
The data in the download version has been reduced to 20-bit audio, whereas the boxed version contains 24-bit audio. The download version is only supported on Windows 7 and Mac OSX 10.5.8 or later, and is only compatible with Intel processors on Mac.

How large is the download version?
The download size is approx 14GB - this is uncompressed during installation resulting in a maximum installed size of approx 52GB.

Why has the data been reduced to 20-bit for the download version?
20-bit audio offers a dynamic range of around 120dB. This is greater than the dynamic range of most professional-grade preamps/A-D converters, so there is no perceptible loss of audio quality. Any noise introduced due to the bit-reduction process is well below the analogue noise floor inherent in the recordings, and leads to much smaller downloads.
